Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that incorporates elements of martial arts, acrobatics, dance, music and culture. It emerged from the northern states of Brazil and was created mainly by the descendants of the African slaves that were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese, during the 16th century.

Today, capoeira is considered as one of the most holistic physical activities in that all elements of physical well being are engaged. The physical elements of strength, flexibility, agility, endurance, impulse and rhythm that is required to ultimately master the art, has captured people of all age groups, physical and mental abilities and cultural backgrounds.



Ginga Mundo is a capoeira group in the heart of Salvador, Brazil that was founded in 2004 by Mestre Sabia. Mestre Sabia has spread Afro-Brazilian culture for the greater good. And is committed to those from disadvantaged backgrounds. He established the Project Mandinga to help disadvantaged children in Brazil, teaching English and creating opportunities for them to take their skills abroad.

Today there are Ginga Mundo schools around the world, including the UK, Europe, Australia and the US.Ginga Mundo Melbourne is lead by Monitor Vira Lata, who has been training capoeira for more than 15 years.
