Shaun Murphy

Shaun Murphy has broad-ranging skills and experience as a theatre practitioner and director, working in the fields of live theatre, classical and contemporary music, broadcasting, television, concerts and cabaret.

He has worked as a principal artist in the area of commercial theatre (The Phantom of the Opera, The Secret Garden, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Kismet, Jesus Christ Superstar), and with the various Opera companies throughout Australia and New Zealand. He was also a soloist with the Queensland, Sydney & Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Pops Orchestra and the Melbourne Philharmonic.

He’s the recipient of 2 Green Room awards for his work with Combo Fiasco.

Much of his current professional life is split between Directing new and established musical theatre/opera works, teaching theatre studies in various tertiary institutions, working with the performer Anne Wood in the duo Murphy & Wood, and maintaining a busy private teaching practice. He recently Directed The Little Sweep for Victorian Opera.
